Kean Hosts K-12 Chinese STEM Educators

Kean established a STEM education cooperation
program with the Department of Education in Zhejiang province in China in June of 2018. The program focuses on innovation in STEM
education. We’ve hosted a number of kindergarten through
high school principals that have come over and been interested in seeing the best that
U.S. STEM education has to offer. One of the things we wanted to do in terms
of delivering an experience to our visitors was to showcase the wide range of opportunities
that a STEM student would have when they are in the New Jersey system. So the delegates have been able to actually
interact very closely with our STEM teachers, as well as the students themselves. We have a sister school exchange program,
where there are a dozen or so schools in Zhejiang province inChina partnered with New Jersey
schools for cultural and programmatic exchange. We went out to the Zhejiang province in China. We were able to do some sightseeing, some
cultural immersion. And then we were also able to see some classes
in action. So we got to see teachers teaching, we got
to see their spaces. I really think seeing the students, and seeing
how similar they were to our students, and also seeing them engage in classes was great. I was able to take away a couple of things
that maybe we can look at tweaking. Despite the fact that we are separated by
an ocean, dramatically different cultures, and languages, we’ve been able to meet on
common ground, and actually cutivate a common vision in what science education should be
in the future.
